Six people are believed to be dead after a small plane crashed in Arizona on Wednesday night.
The plane, which was carrying three men and three small children, crashed in the Superstition Mountains in Pinal County, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing the local sheriff’s office.
Elias Johnson, a spokesperson with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department, told the Times local officials “don’t anticipate” that anyone survived the crash because the plane was “pretty well burned up.”
The plane was traveling more than 200 miles an hour when it crashed into one of the mountains, he added.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told the The Arizona Republic that the passengers and the pilot were traveling to Safford, Arizona, for Thanksgiving.
“From what we understand, that plane flew from Safford to Mesa to pick up children and return to Safford,” Babeu said.
He said the mother of the children was notified after the plane went down on Wednesday night.
