There are many reports that there has been a shooting on U.S. Capitol Hill.

UPDATE: Senate Sergeant At Arms tweeted at 3:50 p.m. that the Capitol is now open for official business, but the Capitol Visitor Center remains closed. 

UPDATE: As of 3:20 p.m. the lockdown has been lifted from the White House; Capitol Hill remains on lockdown.

Reports are breaking that there has been a shooting in the U.S. Capitol building.

The Capitol’s Sergeant At Arms said: “Shooter has been caught. One police office (sic) shot, but not seriously. Remain sheltered in place.”

Staff within the complex have been told by police to stay sheltered after there were reports of gunshots in the Capitol Visitors Center.

The White House and Congress are currently on lockdown.

The situation was apparently contained to the visitors center.
