Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) issued three citations for the Shen Yun Performing Arts and to two residents of Maryland, Rocky Liao and Tony Xue, who tied for first place in the third annual “International Classical Chinese Dance Competition,” held in New York City in June 2009.
The citation was presented to Shen Yun for “Its outstanding contributions to the artistic, cultural, and historical enrichment of people throughout the world through its world-class stage performances showcasing authentic traditional Chinese dance and music and creating a bridge of understanding to Chinese culture and history.”
The citations were issued on Aug. 25, 2009, the first day of a series of Shen Yun performances scheduled from Aug. 25 - 30 at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
