Google has been pushing out its latest Android release, 5.1, to its Nexus devices in recent weeks, but as you may have noticed, other manufacturers have been slow to roll out the newest version of the OS. Sony, HTC, Samsung and others that have pushed out the Lollipop update to some of their devices have released builds based on Android 5.0.2, rather than the newer 5.1.

A recent rumor claimed that Samsung is already working on an Android 5.1 update for its range-topping Galaxy Note 4, along with plans to deliver the latest update to its TouchWiz user interface to that device. That rumor originated at YouMobile - and has since been repeated by others - but it has since been shot down by a more credible publication.

SamMobile states unequivocally that the rumor is “baseless”, adding that its own sources at Samsung have confirmed that the company is not yet working on an Android 5.1 update for the Galaxy Note 4, or any other device in its range. It adds that the Note 4 “should be staying on Android 5.0.x for the foreseeable future”, and is not scheduled to get the new TouchWiz UI anytime soon.

It’s worth noting that SamMobile has a commendable and proven track record when it comes to Samsung news, so when they claim to have information dispelling these rumors, it’s certainly worth paying attention.
