Rip Torn, Matthew McConaughey, Jack Black, and Shirley MacLaine are slated to star in the upcoming dark comedy Bernie, according to reports on Thursday.
Richard Linklater, the man behind A Scanner Darkly and the comedy Dazed and Confused, will direct the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. McConaughey also appeared in Dazed.
Bernie will take place in the small community of Carthage, Texas where the title character played by Black, a mortician and community leader, kills a wealthy widow and tries to cover up the murder.
McConaughey plays the town’s district attorney and Torn, whose career spans numerous decades, and is best known for the role he played in Men in Black, will play Bernie’s lawyer.
