Rhys Ifans has been tapped to play the villain role in the upcoming Spider-Man film, according to a Hollywood Reporter report this week.
Andrew Garfield will play the role of the title superhero character in the film, which is slated for release in 2012.
It is not confirmed what villain Ifans will play.
Ifans is a Welsh actor and musician who had his breakthrough role in Notting Hill in 1999. Since that role, Ifans has performed in 2007’s Elizabeth: The Golden Age, 2009’s Pirate Radio, 2010’s Greenberg and 2010’s Nanny McPhee Returns.
He will also appear in the latest installment in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
As well as movie roles, Ifans has had classical theater experience, having appeared in British productions of Hamlet and A Midsummer’s Night Dream.
