Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords formally submitted her resignation to the House of Representatives, appearing in the congressional building to deliver her letter, according to reports.
“Every day I am working hard. I will recover and will return and we will work together again for Arizona and for all Americans,” her letter read, according to C-Span. Via a live feed, members of the House gave Giffords an applause and wished her well.
Giffords, a Democratic, said on Sunday that she is resigning on Wednesday to further recover from a gunshot wound to the head that she suffered in January 2011. Alleged gunman Jared Lee Loughner fired on a crowd of people, wounding the congresswoman along with 12 other people and killing 6, including a judge.
The House on Wednesday also voted 408 to zero on Wednesday on a bill Giffords authored that would grant federal law enforcement greater power in patrolling drug trafficking along U.S. borders, according to the Washington Post.
