This kindhearted woman couldn’t stand to see that one poor little dog was going to be euthanized. When she took action to rescue the animal from death, a few weeks later, it turned out she ended up saving 19 lives all told!

When Ashlee Holland saw Ava, a golden retriever-chow mix that was on the list for being put down in the spring of 2017, the woman felt she had to save her. Holland believes that pets should not be put to death just to make space for everyone else.

“She was on the euthanasia list. She had no other choice, no other hope. I was basically her last resort along with Midwest Animal ResQ. No dog deserves to be put to sleep for space,” Holland told Fox4 News.

Holland felt the rescue was all the more urgent because of the fact that Ava was pregnant.

“I was aware she was having puppies but x-rays didn’t show how many.”

Holland, a mother herself, always had a passion for saving pets.

“It’s kind of always been a passion I’ve had. I’ve always wanted to rescue, I’ve always wanted to work in the veterinary field. It’s instinct,” she said.

This time, she got a big treat two weeks after bringing Ava home: Ava gave birth to 18 lovely puppies! Holland was both surprised and happy.

“It’s heaven. Puppy pile, you can’t get any better than that,” she said.

Her 9-year-old son named each puppy after some of the Kansas City Royals. And Holland created a Facebook page for Ava and the adorable puppies, for anyone interested in adopting any of them.

“It’s overwhelming. It’s incredible. I didn’t just save one life, I saved 19. It’s amazing,” Holland said.
