A funny clip of a West Virginian toddler joking with his dad during potty training has earned the family viral fame.

Mom Dani DeVito filmed and posted a hilarious video clip of her 2-year-old, Matt, and husband, Greg, on Facebook on Oct. 24, 2019. In the footage, Matt sits pant-less on his potty-training toilet seat with bright-colored socks on his feet and his shirt pulled up; Greg is sitting on the bathroom floor in front of his son, providing emotional support.

Greg politely inquires about his son’s progress while Matt, still seemingly in the middle of his business, claims in a hilarious voice, “I didn’t poop!” in a funny voice, as Greg tries to keep a straight face.

The diligent dad asks his son about his number twos several times over. Each time, Matt’s response becomes more comical and more insistent, “I didn’t poop, I peed!” he exclaims.

Before long, Greg can no longer hold it together and starts crying with laughter. The sensitive toddler clocks his father’s tears, reaches out to comfort him, and asks, “Are you sad, Daddy?”

Greg quickly pulls himself together, wiping away his tears of laughter for his sweet son’s benefit before telling him, “You’re funny, you’re a really funny guy.”

The father and son, possibly never having guessed that potty training would be so much fun, share an enthusiastic high-five at the end of the clip. To date, Dani’s video has amassed over 29 million views on Facebook alone.

“We don’t know where the voice came from,” Dani later explained to West Virginia News. “We have no idea. He’s just a goofy kid.”

Dani added that her young son uses “the voice” with regularity since watching the now-viral footage with his parents, “but it’s not a normal occurrence by any stretch of the imagination,” Dani said.

Dani and Greg habitually use Facebook to keep in touch with loved ones and “share our kid with the world,” the mom explained, as they have friends and family in various different locations. Viral fame, however, has taken the couple completely by surprise.

Matt’s potty-training antics were even picked up by a number of celebrities and shared further on social media. Dani called the experience “absolutely unreal.”

“I feel like I’m living somebody else’s life,” she said. “Every time I think that it’s starting to slow down, something else happens. I think Kristen Bell shared it overnight, and then I was getting screenshots of Alyssa Milano sharing it ... It’s just unreal.”

As for how famous he’s become, Dani thinks her young son has no idea. “I tried to tell him that Anna from Frozen thinks he’s funny,” she said, “and he just agreed that he was funny. He’s a funny kid.”

According to News 18, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan also caught wind of Matt and his side-splitting shenanigans and reposted the tot’s video on her own social media, captioned, “The only time id post a video of someone ... a lil cutie at that ... on the pot.”

Matt’s parents, however, haven’t let viral fame go to their heads. Good parenting and getting their wise-cracking tot through toilet training remain their top priorities.

“One of the things that I really, truly want to accomplish is to raise a kid who is compassionate and caring and takes others’ feelings and concerns into account,” Greg reflected, speaking to West Virginia News after his and Matt’s video went viral.

Sometimes, a funny voice and a little toilet humor can go a long, long way!
