Police said over the weekend that they had apprehended a man they believe responsible for a spate of killings targeting the homeless in Orange County, Calif.

Itzcoatl Ocampo, the suspect in four killings, was a former Marine who returned from Iraq in 2010.

His uncle, Ifrain Gonzalez, recalls Ocampo telling him, “I did something terrible, but don’t worry,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Shortly before that, the killings had begun.

“When he came back from Iraq, he was sick,” his uncle added.

Ocampo, 23, is expected in court on Wednesday, reported NBC Los Angeles.

Police said the suspect was seen stabbing a homeless man to death behind a fast-food restaurant on Friday.

“Unfortunately somebody died, another homeless man lost his life, but witnesses being there really did allow us to capture a murderer,” police spokesperson Sgt. Bob Dunn told NBC.

Saturday, Anaheim Police Chief John Welter said they are “extremely confident” Ocampo is responsible for all four murders.
