HONG KONG—After just two weeks of matches the early pecking order in the CIHL2014-15 season is emerging as Sharks, Warriors, Tycoons and Aces.
Tycoons vs Aces
In the early game at Mega Ice on Saturday Oct 11, Hong Kong Tycoons outstayed the Macau Aces to rack up 7-goals to Aces-3. Despite early promise by the Aces going 2-goal clear in the early minutes of the first period, courtesy of Benjamin Hockley and Michael Kwist, the Tycoons hit back later in the session with goals by Brad Smith, Kory Falite (2) giving the Tycoons a 3-2 edge at the turnaround. The first two of the Tycoons goals were scored while Anthony Devoltz was sin-binned.
One goal each in the second period by Kwist (Aces) and Falite (Tycoons) kept the score close at 4-3 to the Tycoons going into the final 12-minute session. Fitness counted in the final stanza as Tycoons dominated with strikes by Marcus Taeck and Falite (2) making it 5-goals in the game for 3-star winner Falite. Taeck and Smith were the other 3-star winners.
Warriors vs Sharks
After an even, goalless first period, Kowloon Warriors seemed to have the edge over the South China Sharks with a goal by Eric McKenna to give Warriors a slender lead at the end of period-2.
Jordan So pulled the score back to 1-1 4-minutes into the 3rd stanza, but a strike by Andy Ramsay with 8-minutes on the clock put Warriors back in front. Warriors held out right to the end of the match, but following a penalty awarded at the Warrior’s end with seconds left on the clock Shark’s So slotted the puck home to force overtime.
So wasted no time in the overtime session scoring in the 1st minute to give Sharks a 3-2 win. So, Jamie Stark and Jason Awalt took the 3-star awards.
