An appeals court in Ohio reversed a $2 billion judgment against Ford Motor Company, saying that a new trial is necessary for the class-action lawsuit, according to reports.
The lawsuit was filed by a group of car dealers who claimed Ford overcharged them for commercial trucks over an 11-year span.
According to Reuters, the Ohio Court of Appeals said, “We hold that the trial court abused its discretion in excluding Ford’s mitigating evidence at the damages trial.”
Westgate Ford Truck Sales of Youngstown sued the auto company around 10 years ago, alleging that Ford did not give the same discount to some dealerships that others received, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
Ford spokesperson Marcey Evans told the Plain Dealer that the automaker “looks forward to trying the case in front of a jury that will consider all of the evidence that was improperly excluded in the first trial.”
