NEW YORK—One last opportunity still remains to have a fun day out on Governors Island. Governors Island’s 2012 public access season comes to a close this weekend. If you are regretting not making the most of the summer this could be your chance.
The island will offer a diverse range of activities both Saturday and Sunday. The Children’s Museum of the Arts will host free programs, everything from painting and drawing to large-scale sculpture. Or, head to Picnic Point to learn about composting. You can also learn about the history of Governors Island in an intimate setting led by a National Park Service ranger.
A range of other viewing and interactive arts projects will be offered as well as the usual range of outdoor activities. Thirty new acres of parkland are under construction and will provide additional facilities to the island in 2013.
