NYC Harlem East 116th Street Explosion: MTA Metro-North Railroad Service Changes

Due to the explosion at East 116th St. in Harlem early Wednesday (Mar. 12) morning, Metro-North Railroad service into and out of Grand Central Terminal is temporarily suspended.

UPDATE: As of 5:05 p.m. local time, MTA announced that the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven line services have been restored. Delays and crowded conditions are to be expected.

Due to the explosion at East 116th St. in Harlem early Wednesday (Mar. 12) morning, MTA has announced that Metro-North Railroad service into and out of Grand Central Terminal were temporarily suspended. Employees in orange vests are redirecting commuters.

There are Metro-North tracks adjacent to the site of the explosion and trains cannot run until they are cleared of debris. Power was cut on the third trail to the tracks. 

There will be train delays to the Metro-North Railroad Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven service lines.

Southbound trains are being held at stations along those service lines pending further instructions.

MTA is advising customers to take subway lines instead. Service changes will remain in effect until 3 p.m. today.

Harlem Line & New Haven Line

Southbound customers: Walk to  No. 2 subway train at 233rd Street from Wakefield or Woodlawn stations 

Eastbound customers: Walk to No. 5 subway train at East 180th Street from Wakefield or Woodlawn stations. 

Northbound customers: Take No. 5 subway at East 180th Street and transfer to No. 2 subway to 233rd Street and walk to Metro-North’s Woodlawn Station.

Hudson Line

Southbound customers: Transfer to No. 4 or D subway trains after getting off at Yankees-East 153rd Street, or to No. 1 subway at 225th Street from Marble Hill

Northbound customers: Take the No. 4 or D subway train to 161st Street (Yankee Stadium) and walk west to Metro-North’s Yankees – East 153rd Street station.

 Metro-North advises customers to limit travel today if possible
