Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting
A true holiday event, the iconic and massive Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be illuminated by five miles of environmentally friendly LED lights and crowned with a Swarovski crystal star. Typically, tens of thousands show up for this event and many millions more watch it broadcast live.

1950s Christmas in a 1850s House
The holiday innovations of the 1850s were so good that they endured into the 1950s and up to today. Take a nostalgic trip back to the 1950s at the Merchants House Museum. The historic 1832 home will be decked out with vintage trees, over-the-top tinsel decorations, and memorabilia from the golden age of Christmas. Expect some classic Christmas music too. Pieces are from the collection of Deb O'Nair.

The Master Plan of Manhattan, 1811–2011
It’s hard to imagine how Manhattan evolved into the mega-tropolis it is today. Now, you can with the help of the Museum of the City of New York. The museum will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the original 1811 plan that established Manhattan’s famous street grid by featuring an 1811 original hand-drawn map of the city’s planned streets and avenues, as well as other rare historic maps, photographs, and prints.

Bach Cantatas
An intricately layered tapestry of sound, Bach’s cantatas are some of the richest and most sublime music ever created. The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, under the guidance of John Harbison, has selected four of Bach’s 200 cantatas to perform, including “Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen” (“Weeping, Crying, Sobbing, Sighing”), “Tue Rechnung! Donnerwort” (“Settle Accounts! Word of Thunder”), and Cantata “Alles nur nach Gottes Willen” (“Everything following God’s Will alone”).
