New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is slated to give a keynote address at the Republican National Convention in Tampa later this month, it was announced Tuesday.
“I'll try to tell some very direct and hard truths to people in the country about the trouble that we’re in and the fact that fixing those problems is not going to be easy for any of them,” Christie told USA Today in an interview announcing that he would speak.
He added, “The American people are ready to confront those problems head-on and endure some sacrifice.”
Before this year, it was believed that Christie would possibly campaign for president and he did not rule out running for the nation’s highest office in the future.
“It’s what I accomplish or don’t accomplish as governor that will be the springboard or not for me,” he told the paper. “It’s not what you say but what you accomplish.”
Mitt Romney’s campaign announced that he will be introduced by Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, reported The Associated Press.
