You can now own a smart mirror that generates a 3D model of your body, instantly.
California start-up Naked Labs opened pre-orders on April 14 for the home use 3D body scanner, which looks just like a mirror.
Naked’s 3D Fitness Tracker consists of a full-length mirror containing built-in sensors and a weight scale “turntable.” The system uses infrared light to scan your body and create a 3D model that is viewable on the Naked companion app.
Co-founders and CEOs, Farhad Farahbakhshian and Ed Sclater, have a passion for fitness and technology. The engineers said they wanted to create a device that would visualize one’s fitness progress “far quicker than what you would see on a scale or than what your eyes would show you in a mirror.”
The technology is designed to be simple and accurate. Within 30 seconds, you can view a full 3D scan of your body, including: your measurements, weight, body fat percentage, and muscle percentage.
You can observe the fluctuations in your numbers over time, offering an objective perspective to your body’s changes.
Features such as time lapses and side-by-side comparisons will allow an increased ability to track progress (or non-progress, as the case may be).
One mirror can be linked up to six separate Naked accounts, so it’s suitable for multiple users. With the ability to measure people up to a weight of 330 pounds and height of 6-foot-6, the mirror is suitable for most people—although taller people’s scans will have a slightly lower resolution.
United States residents can purchase the mirror for $499, plus shipping, but the product won’t be shipped until March 2017.
