The house of Miami Heat center/forward Chris Bosh was robbed earlier this week, it was reported. Around $340,000 worth of jewelry and purses were snatched from Bosh’s Miami home while he was out celebrating his 29th birthday.
Miami Beach Police told USA Today that when Bosh returned from a club, he and his wife noticed their closet was ripped apart.
“We got a call at 12:30 last night, Mr. Bosh called us when he arrived home,” Miami Beach Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Hernandez told The Huffington Post. “His jewelry and closet had been ransacked.”
Bosh’s children were at home with housekeepers while the couple was out and police said no one inside heard any commotion. “We are leaning on the side of this being an inside job,” Hernandez told USA Today. There was also no sign of a forced entry into the house.
“Me and my family take certain precautionary measures,” Bosh said after Thursday’s practice, according to the Orlando Sun-Sentinel. “We do things a certain way. Now, it’s just a process. It’s not a good feeling but … we have to get down to the bottom of this. We’ll get there.”
Bosh’s NBA championship ring, which he acquired last year when the Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games, was not removed from his closet.
“Either they were let in, or they were in before the housekeepers got there,” Hernandez told the Post, adding that “according to Mr. Bosh and Mrs. Bosh, the [stolen] items were there when they left, so the window of opportunity is between 6 p.m. and midnight.”
When asked how long he was gone for his birthday, Bosh replied, “not long,” according to the Sentinel. “An evening. Things can happen quickly.”
“The man was out enjoying his birthday with his family and friends and somebody takes advantage of that,” Heat forward Udonis Haslem told the Sentinel. “It’s unfortunate. Chris is a great guy and I’m sorry for what happened … He brings a championship to this city and somebody does that to him?”
Police detectives are investigating whether workers were recently in the 12,000 square foot home that Bosh purchased for $12.5 million in September 2010.
