The Lake Geneva Police Department announced on Tuesday that 40-year-old Michalene Melges and her three sons have been found safely in Georgia.
“We will offer further updates at the appropriate time. We would like to thank the media and citizens for their concern and assistance in this matter,” the police statement said.
Melges was located exactly two weeks since she and her three sons, 14-year-old Hans, 12-year-old Kristian “Max,” and 10-year-old Maverik “Buddy” were last seen.
According to authorities, the newly-divorced mother called her children’s schools ahead of time and signed them out from May 10 to May 13.
Melges rented a van, believed to be for their vacation, in Lake Bluff, Ill., on May 9.
The van was then returned to a rental company in Plano, Texas, on May 13—but the rental company said they didn’t see the family drop the van off.
Authorities said Melges’ credit cards and cellphones were unused while they were missing.
Melges’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts have been updated since she disappeared, but a new post appeared on Monday evening, explaining that she has a team who updates her social media.
“{Note} This is Michalene’s Social Media Team,” the post said. “We have been updating and keeping her accounts current. We appreciate all your concerns and notes. Please note, she is not posting, we are posting for her. Thank you.”
According to a Lake Geneva News report, Melges is a local real estate agent and appeared on the cover of Top Agent Magazine in 2014.
