Interested to know more about Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor before taking the plunge?
There is a new trailer out that succinctly introduces the game’s story, characters, weapons and runes, Nemesis system, and fearsome beasts in developer Monolith upcoming Lord of the Rings’ universe game.
Set between J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Shadow of Mordor follows the Ranger Talion as he attempts to extract revenge upon the enemies that slaughtered him and his family.
Talion is still “alive” despite being killed at the start of the game because the Dark Lord Sauron some how managed to bind him together with the legendary elf Celebrimbor, maker of the Elves’ Three Rings of power.
Because Talion is bound with Celebrimbor, he gains Wraith-like abilities that will not only eventually be powerful enough to let him brutally destroy his enemies, but also allow him to dominate his orc and uruk enemies, and work to bring them down from the inside.
Talion will need to start “persuading” enemies to his cause because he might not survive just by hacking and slashing alone.
This is so as Shadow of Mordor features a Nemesis system that causes Talion’s enemies to form “relations” with him when they face him in combat. Orcs that manage to defeat Talion will not only return again and again to hunt him down, they will also rise up in the orcish command hierarchy, which will then affect the dynamic of Sauron’s army.
Thus, with a little “diplomacy,” Talion could get some pesky orc warchiefs or captains off his back, and sway certain orc bands to help his interests.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will be out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30 in North America and October 3 in Europe, but the dates for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have been pushed back to November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe.
