A University of Maryland student was charged on Monday with threatening to go on a shooting spree on the campus.

Alexander Song, a 19-year-old student who graduated high school as one of the top academic performers, was arrested and charged with making threats, reported the Baltimore Sun.

Song posted comments on the Internet on Saturday, including: “I will be on a shooting rampage tomorrow on campus, hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news,” as well as “Stay away from the Mall tomorrow at 1:30,” according to the Sun. When police arrested him, he was unarmed.

Authorities withheld the identification of the website where he posted the comments.

Officials at the school said Song’s threats were taken “extremely seriously,” according to CBS-DC. Song was charged with disturbing the orderly conduct of activities and could get fined $2,500 with a possible six-month jail term.
