Mario Lopez, host of TV show “Extra,” is a father, according to media reports on Sunday.
Lopez, 36, and his girlfriend Courntey Mazza, 28, are now the parents of Gia Francisca Lopez, who was born on Saturday.
Gia weighed in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces and was delivered in Los Angeles, People magazine reported.
Lopez, who formerly starred in “Saved by the Bell,” initially thought that Mazza was joking when she said she was in labor.
His relatives frantically called him up and said that Mazza was not joking, prompting Lopez to immediately book a flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to make it to the hospital in time.
“I thought it was a practical joke,” Lopez told People. “Then my mom and sister started blowing up [calling] my phone and telling me it’s really happening. There was one flight left and we barely made it!”
His show “Extra” reported on his situation on Saturday.
“What an amazing, wonderful and overwhelming experience to welcome our daughter into the world,” he said on the show.
