Artists from the group who call themselves “The Piano Guys” have combined two elements—the piano and half a million decorative lights—to light up a street in Sandy, Utah, and the effect is spectacular!
Every year during the Christmas season, there are people all around who enjoy adorning their houses with Christmas lights, a reindeer or two, or even giant inflatable Santas. Lights, however, are the most common decoration.
Some lights blink and some change colors, whilst others are just a nice, pretty display, but all aim to contribute to the Christmas spirit. After all, ’tis the season to be jolly. In fact, The Piano Guys took jolly to the next level, because when you see what they orchestrated, you'd understand that this isn’t your average urban lights display.
Firstly, a grand piano is set up with an array of pretty Christmas lights, as seen in a video uploaded to YouTube on Dec. 9, 2017. Yes, that’s nice ... but this act is just getting started.
The magic begins when the pianist, Jon Schmidt, starts playing the classic Christmas song “I Saw Three Ships.” Soon, it’s evident that every stroke of a key is perfectly synchronized with the light decorations on two houses nearby. The whole visual, and of course audible, effect is astonishing.
The whole performance was filmed by a drone that captured, from above, the beautiful play of lights.
Funnily enough, at the end of the video, police sirens can be heard. “The police actually did show up. For real. (We’d like to thank them for their kindness and mercy),” the artists wrote on their page. “No pianists were harmed or jailed in the making of this video.”
In just under two weeks, the clip received more than 1.2 million views on YouTube, drawing scores of praise.
“I am utterly gobsmacked,” wrote another, whose comment received over 200 thumbs up.
