A husband has been taken into custody after attacking and killing a man attempting to rape his wife inside an apartment building in the Bronx on May 30.

The man, identified by police as 43-year-old Earl Nash, forcibly entered a 51-year-old woman’s home and began to hit her, causing bruises to her face, while removing her clothes, according to an NYPD statement. Upon breaking free, the woman grabbed a cell phone and dialed her husband, 61-year-old Mamadou Diallo.

A witness stated Nash had been going door-to-door, knocking and asking for water. When the woman opened the door, Nash pushed his way inside.

The Daily News reported that Diallo used a tire iron to relentlessly beat Nash, who had first struck Diallo several times with a belt.

Shortly after, Emergency Medical Services responded and transported Nash to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Diallo was arrested and faces a manslaughter charge.

The couple’s son told PIX11 News that his mother suffered scarring to her back and several more bruises to her body in addition to the ones on her face. He says he was shocked and mad, among other emotions, but that his father’s act was “relieving,” and stated: “I don’t care what they say, I’m glad he was there.”

According to PIX11, citing a witness, Nash even attempted to lure a small child, but the little girl fled to her parents before he could do anything.

According to police, Nash has an extensive criminal record, with more than 20 arrests.
