Captain Higgins is going to Washington. At least that’s what he’s hoping to do.

The deputy marshall for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, Captain Clay Higgins (R-LA), announced on May 18 that he will run to replace Congressman Charles Boustany.
Higgins broadcast his 20-minute speech on Facebook Live, and created a nearly 6-minute YouTube video to rally support for his move to Washington.
In his broadcast, Higgins says he will be a “loud” and “angry” voice in Washington, and aims to fight against “career politicians.”
In his YouTube video, the patriotic Higgins asks his viewers and supporters to “set aside your differences, stand together as one nation under God and as one people beneath the glory of one flag” and “to stand as a nation reborn.”
Higgins resigned from the St. Landry’s Sheriff’s Office in February after making a video about accused members of the Gremlin Street Gang. In the video, he referred to the wanted men as “thugs,” “animals” and “heathens.”
Members of a gang are wanted for hundreds of violent crimes, including several murders and armed robberies, witness intimidation, burglaries, extortion, assault, and drug trafficking. Of the seven Higgins targeted, all but three have surrendered.
On his website, Higgins says he is a lifelong member of Louisiana, who has “served Acadiana in Law Enforcement for the last eleven years and currently serves as Deputy Marshal for the City of Lafayette.”
Higgins claims he has “become one of the nation’s most influential cops” and is a “passionate defender of the Bill of Rights.”
His page says he “received his initial training in police work when serving as a military police officer in the United States Army.”
