Critically acclaimed and award winning actress Kate Winslet and award winning director Sam Mendes have split, a London attorney representing them said to US Magazine on Monday.
A representative from attorney Keith Schilling’s law firm released a formal statement Monday revealing that the couple had communally agreed to separate. The couple avoided a custody battle by agreeing to split custody of their six-year-old son Joe Mendes.
Kate Winslet is best known for her lead role as Rose DeWitt Bukater in “Titanic” with Leonardo DiCaprio. She was nominated six times for an Academy Award, and finally won a Academy Award in 2008 for Best Actress with her role in “The Reader.”
Sam Mendes won the Academy Award for Best Director in his award-winning film debut “American Beauty” starring Kevin Spacey in 1999. He won the Golden Globe award for Best Director for “American Beauty” as well as “Revolutionary Road,” which also starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The couple have one son, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, who was born in 2003. Winslet has a daughter, Mia Honey, who was born in 2000 during Winslet’s previous marriage to director Jim Threapleton.
