Kim Kardashian’s highly publicized and lavish lifestyle was likely a factor contributing to this week’s armed robbery of the reality television star, according to fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld.
“You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you,” the designer told reporters after his Chanel show on Oct. 4, reported France 24.
Lagerfeld had offered her well-wishes after the news broke that Kardashian was the victim of an armed robbery, but he also chastised her for showing off her valuables on Twitter and Instagram.
In a Tuesday appearance on Good Morning Britain, Stanulis recommended that the Kardashian family invest more money into their security detail in order to ensure the safety of all members, particularly because they can afford it.
“If you have a $13 million ring and you’re sporting it on Snapchat, what does it cost to get an off-duty or retired police officer, who is trained and you could have prevented this from happening,” he said.
Kardashian, 35, was reportedly robbed at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in the early morning of Oct. 3. It was reported that a gang of five masked men—two of whom forced their way into her private luxury residence—stole a jewelry box containing valuables worth $7 million dollars, a ring worth nearly $4.5 million, a cell phone, and a wallet with $1,000 in cash.
The reality star was “badly shaken,” but unharmed, following the incident and has since returned to New York City, and was surrounded by security guards as she entered her Tribeca apartment.
The suspects are still at large as the investigation into the robbery continues.
