Kara Kennedy, the oldest daughter of late Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, died at the age of 51 on Friday after exercising at a Washington, D.C., health club.

Her brother Patrick Kennedy, a former Rhode Island congressman, confirmed to The Associated Press that she had died. Sen. Kennedy died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 77.

“Her heart gave out,” the former congressman told AP. “She’s with dad.”

Kara Kennedy, who made films, spent less time in the spotlight than most other members of the Kennedy clan.

“Unlike my father, I felt more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. But like him, I found my greatest fulfillment in showing the needs and successes of others,” she wrote in April, according to The New York Times.
