Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal asks citizens to join together prayer for help with the ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Jindal made announcement Thursday asking citizens to pray for help Sunday. The work being done to stop the flow of oil is being carried on by BP, the U.S. Coast Guard, and The National Guard.
Oil giant BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and subsequent spill is being regarded as one of the worst environmental disaster in history. Jindal’s request followed another prayer request by Republican Senator Robert Adley, reported New Orleans’ the Times-Picayune.
Jindal believes that the oil spill is a serious threat to the citizens of Louisiana.
“I’ve said from the very beginning that this is a marathon and that Louisiana will win the war against the oil that threatens our Louisiana Way of Life,” said Jindal in a statement.
A statement from BP shows that the company is recovering oil and natural gas from the oil spill.
There has been no report confirming the cause of the explosion that lead to the sinking of the Transocean rig resulting in the oil spill and deaths of 11 workers on the rig.
Jindal recently objected to a push by President Obama to extend a drilling moratorium in the state.
Jindal claimed that the stopping of off shore drilling would severely effect the states employment rate causing the loss of jobs and extended layoffs. President Barack Obama is concerned about the possible recurrence of another oil spill in the area, reported The Economic Times.
