UPDATE: GoPro just released a new GoPro HERO4 on their official Youtube channel.
Information about the next GoPro camera has been leaked.
Photography blog PetaPixel was given information about the GoPro HERO4 cameras by an unnamed source.
No, the referring to the GoPro HERO4 in the plural is not a mistake; there will be two different HERO4s, namely, the HERO4 Black and HERO4 Silver.
The HERO4 Black is literally twice as power as the GoPro HERO3+.
For instance, the action camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30 frames per second (fps), up from 15 fps, and can capture audio at twice the dynamic range.
The key resolution frame rates are 4K at 30fps, 2.7K at 50fps, 1440p at 80fps, 1080p at 120fps, 960p at 120fps, and 720p at 120fps.
The HERO4’s ultra-wide angle glass lens allows three different field-of-view settings — Narrow, Medium, and Ultra Wide — to be set.
Still images can be captured at 12 mega-pixels and at 30 fps, and there are new manual settings for both photography and videography.
Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, nighttime exposure setting, “HiLight Tag” setting (to mark key moments in videos), QuikCapture, auto low light features, and waterproof capability of down to 131 feet (40m).
The HERO4 Silver shares many of the same features as the HERO4 black with some exceptions.
The Silver doesn’t have 4K video recording capabilities, but has an in-built touch display.
Also, the key resolution frame rates for the HERO Silver are 4K at 15fps, 2.7K at 30fps, 1440p at 48fps, 1080p at 60fps, 960p at 100fps, and 720p at 120fps.
PetaPixel says that their information should be “100% accurate” as they were granted access to “product photos and full spec sheets.”
Their source also told them that the GoPro HERO4 cameras will be officially announced on October 8, 2014.
Unfortunately, PetaPixel didn’t get any pricing information out from their source, but financial website Benzinga says that the camera will carry a retail price of $499.95.
