Google changed up its background logo in honor of the Fourth of July. The popular search site featured a classic Rube Goldberg moving cartoon display that fires off fireworks.

Google, which pulls in more than 290 million hits a day, changed its background to honor the legendary cartoonist. The site also found a creative way to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Rube Goldberg cartoons are known for their imagery of complex machines that perform specific tasks. Usually one item will trigger one mechanism, that triggers another mechanism, that triggers another, until a final function is executed by the machine.

The cartoonist Rube Goldberg was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his work. He was born in 1883 in San Francisco, California.
