In fulfilling Google Chrome’s senior Vice President Sundar Pichai’s vision of “your web, working everywhere,” Google Inc. is bringing its Chrome browser to Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPad, the company announced on the second day of its I/O developer conference in San Francisco on Thursday.
In a continuous effort to push its browser beyond the desktop, the browser will be available in the App Store later Thursday, offering signature features of Chrome, including synchronization across devices and an anonymous “incognito” mode.
Usage of Google’s Chrome has seen an increase in the past year, with more than 310 million active users, a rise from 160 million a year ago.
Pichai said that equates to 60 billion words typed and one terabyte of data downloaded each day.
Google released a test version of Chrome for Android in February. With the introduction of Google’s new tablet Nexus 7, Chrome became the default browser in Android deviceS for the first time.
