Gloria Stuart, best known for her Academy Award-nominated performance in 1997’s Titanic, died on Monday, according to reports. She was 100.
Stuart’s acting career spanned more than seven decades. She began her acting career in the 1930s when she starred in numerous movies, including 1933’s Invisible Man.
Her daughter Slyvia Thompson told the Associated Press that she died in her home in Los Angeles.
Stuart was diagnosed with lung cancer several years ago and survived breast cancer two decades ago.
“She did not believe in illness. She paid no attention to it, and it served her well,” Thompson told the AP. “She had a great life. I’m not sad. I’m happy for her.”
By the 1940s, she had already appeared in more than 40 films and had retired. She started acting again more than 30 years later.
Stuart received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star in 2000.
