The Game of Thrones TV series is pass the half way point with Season 4, and show creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss already know how the epic fantasy ends.
It seems like only yesterday that Game of Thrones hit the air waves, and wowed viewers with great acting from the cast, beautiful sets in exotic locales, brilliant plot twists, and of course, what happened to loyal nobleman and good guy Eddard Stark in Season 1.
Oh, and also a certain wedding in the penultimate episode of Season 3.
While author George R. R. Martin has only released 5 of 7 books in his A Song of Fire and Ice series, which Game of Thrones is adapted from, the show creators are only envisioning a 7 season series.
“It feels like this is the midpoint for us,” David Benioff said to EW. “If we’re going to go seven seasons, which is the plan, season 4 is right down the middle, the pivot point.”
“Seven gods, seven kingdoms, seven seasons. It feels right to us.”
As Season 4 covers the second half of Book 3, A Storm of Swords, this means a certain deviation in the TV series from the book at some point, maybe even in Season 4 itself.
But how the TV series ends will likely be similar to the book.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Benioff and Weiss revealed that they “just sat down with (Martin) and literally went through every character” in 2013.
Martin tells Vanity Fair he didn’t let on too much, though.
“I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet.”
“I’m hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me,” Martin said.
