The Samsung Galaxy S3 could finally be getting the latest Android update in the US.

Earlier this month, the US Galaxy S3 product page states that the smartphone now uses the Android KitKat 4.4 OS. Previously, only the Sprint Galaxy S3 carried the latest Android update in the US.

While the device does not have Android KitKat 4.4 yet, it is unlikely to be a mistake. Samsung is known to revise its product pages ahead of an update’s official release. So this information confirms that Android KitKat 4.4 will be made available for the Galaxy S3.

The exact release date of the update, however, remains a mystery.

U.S. carriers that have adopted the 2GB LTE model should receive the update eventually. According to Samsung, the Galaxy S3 Android KitKat 4.4 update will definitely not be available for the 1GB GT-i9300 version of the Galaxy S3 due to performance issues.

The update could, however, take some time to roll out. This is so as it is rumored that some Samsung devices, the Galaxy S3 included, will have the yet-to-be-released Android KitKat 4.4.3 update instead of KitKat 4.4.2.

Given the rumored June release date of Android KitKat 4.4.3, Galaxy S3 owners could potentially be in for a wait for their next, and final, major Android OS update.
