Could Samsung' Galaxy Note 4 come with an ultraviolet scanner and sensor?
Samsung and Apple have targeted the health and fitness sector as the next big area that will drive the smart phone business.
To that end, both companies have rolled out (or in Apple’s case, planning to roll out) a couple of technological innovations in their mobile devices to help anyone with an interest in keeping track of their exercise routine and diet to do so more effectively.
Samsung’s Galaxy S5 already has the S Health app, which tracks the user’s diet, exercise, sleep, and heart rate.
Heart rate is tracked via a heart rate sensor, and the Galaxy S5 is the first smartphone in the industry to have one.
Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6 will supposedly have a heart rate sensor as well, but by the time the latest iPhone is released, Samsung may be yet again ahead of the curve.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 4 will be the first smartphone/phablet to come with an ultraviolet sensor.
The sensor will be integrated with the S Health app, and will help to measure ultraviolet radiation on the user’s skin, before giving recommended advice.
SamMobile notes that “users will need to maintain over 60 degree angle of elevation towards the sun against the back of the sensor.”
Samsung has not confirmed if there will be an ultraviolet sensor.
The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be launched at a pre-IFA 2014 Samsung Unpacked event on September 3, according to rumors.
Officially, Samsung has declined to give a specific release date.
Samsung executive Yoon Han-kil did however told Reuters that the phablet will be released in the second half of 2014.
