Pixar on Tuesday said that it will release a sequel to the 2003 smash hit “Finding Nemo,” calling it “Finding Dory.”
“Finding Dory” will focus on a blue tang fish voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, and the film will be directed by Andrew Stanton, the original co-director of “Finding Nemo.”
The next installment of the series will hit theaters in fall 2015, according to Reuters.
“I’m excited that it’s finally happening,” DeGeneres said on her show, “Ellen,” according to the news agency. “I read the script and it’s fantastic, it’s hilarious, it’s warm, it’s everything that you want it to be,” she continued.
She added in a press release that she has “waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time.”
“I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ”Toy Story 16.“ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is -- it’s got a lot more Dory,” DeGeneres said.
When it was released, “Finding Nemo” earned a reported $380 million at the domestic box office and earned another $540 million internationally.
Disney said that he new film will include new characters along with familiar ones, including Nemo and his dad, Marlin, who was voiced by Albert Brooks. There’s no word yet from Disney on whether Brooks will reprise his voice role.
