Filmmaker Kevin Smith Talks About Losing 50 Lbs in 6 Months

Updated:

How do you lose 50 pounds in six months? 48-year-old filmmaker Kevin Smith has recently spilled the secrets of his weight-loss journey online, inspiring his followers on Instagram.

At his heaviest, the film producer, director, writer, and actor weighed 330 pounds, but he started to lose serious weight after he had a health scare.

Since then, Smith’s lifestyle has drastically changed.

“This is the 5th time this week that I’ve hiked #RunyonCanyon. It’s sweaty work but not as hard as it used to be for me to do,” he wrote on a post on Sept. 7.

Six months ago, Smith was in the hospital for a heart attack, and his doctor told him, “The best thing you can do for yourself now is to lose 50 pounds.”

He joined a diet program, changed his lifestyle and only ate plant-based food. Now he’s down to 205 pounds.

Since Smith didn’t like vegetables, he learned what to eat from his vegan daughter Harley Quinn Smith. He contributes his success to her and the advice from comedian Penn Jillette and his book “Presto: How I Made Over 100 Pounds Disappear and Other Magical Tales.”

After shedding the pounds, he’s had a lot of fun posting before and after photos.

He also announced that he wants to get down to 195 pounds and start to explore new workout routines.

“Next up: I’ll be adding a serious exercise regimen, beyond just all the dog-walking,” he wrote.

Smith is most famous for his directing and acting in film such as “Clerks” and “Mallrats.”
