EA’s North America version of FIFA 15 will feature United States soccer star Clint Demsey on the cover together with Lionel Messi.
The Europe addition of FIFA 15, EA’s popular soccer simulator, will only feature Messi. The Barcelona and Argentina star has appeared on FIFA covers three times (FIFA Street, FIFA 13, FIFA 14) previously.
Dempsey, 31, plays for the Seattle Sounders in Major League Soccer.
On the whole, Dempsey had an excellent World Cup 2014, and scored the fifth faster goal (29 seconds after kick off) in World Cup history to boot.
In an interview, Dempsey said “It’s pretty cool, especially to be on the cover of a game that I played growing up, and also in the company of one of the best players in the world.
“It’s exciting.”
The USMNT captain added that football games like FIFA have helped grow U.S. interest in soccer.
“You start figuring out the rules, so when you watch the games on TV, you’re able to understand it more,” said Dempsey.
“It only helps the popularity of the game in the U.S.”
So far, only the North American (U.S. and Canada) and Europe regional cover have been released. Other regional covers are expected to be unveiled.
FIFA 15 is slated for a September 23 release for the PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo 3DS.
