Famed Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor recently released love letters from legendary actor Richard Burton who passed away in 1984. The pair were married twice but struggled to keep the intensity of their relationship under control.

Burton known for multiple roles during the Golden Age of Hollywood, became infatuated with Taylor while she was married to another man. The pair later married and had a rocky relationship that often reared its ugly head in the spotlight of the American press.

Taylor released some excerpts from past love letters written to her from the now deceased Burton. Vanity Fair will release a full write up about the letters later in the month. One of the letters will be released in its entirety while another, a more private letter, will be kept next to Taylor’s bed for safe keeping. The private letter was read by Taylor to the editor of Vanity Fair, but will not be published. The secret letter was written days before Burton’s passing in Switzerland, reported ABC News.

“If you leave me, I shall have to kill myself. There is no life without you. From those first moments in Rome we were always madly and powerfully in love. We had more time but not enough,” wrote Burton in a letter retrieved by ABC.

Taylor has been married several times, but it’s her relationship with Burton that was the most remembered by Hollywood fans. The couple married twice and fought back and forth for over 20 years, sometimes publicly and sometimes privately.

Burton was known for his role in 1964’s Cleopatra along with other classic films from the ᾿60s that landed him six Academy Award nominations, but never an Oscar. Taylor, thrown into Hollywood at a young age, has five Academy Award nominations winning twice, has done humanitarian work for AIDS and has also designed jewelry and released several perfumes.
