After a battle with cancer Grammy nominated actress, Dixie Carter, has passed away at the age of 70.

She is reported to have passed away in Houston on Saturday after complications from endometrial cancer.

Her husband, Hal Holbrook, has stated that the loss of his wife has been a “hard blow” to the family.

Holbrook, a Tony Award winning actor who has also took on the television roles drama “The West Wing” and on the big screen in The Firm, took some time to comment on his time of grief with Entertainment Tonight stating, “We would appreciate everyone understanding that this is a private family tragedy.”

Carter was nominated for a Grammy Award after an appearance on “Desperate Housewives” but gained the majority of her notoriety from her memorable role as Julia Sugarbaker on “Designing Women.”

“Designing Women” was featured on CBS from 1986-1993. The show depicted the lives of women trying to make it in the then modern business world.

Carter’s character Julia was the owner of the interior design company featured on the show that was the main setting of the program  and was appropriately named Sugar Baker Design.

Carter was born in McLemoresville, Tennessee in 1939 and graduated college from Memphis State which is now know as the University of Memphis.
