Star Wars has done it again—we mean featuring a strong female protagonist, of course.
Released on April 6, a 10-second teaser detailed that a full teaser trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ would be released the following day during Good Morning America (GMA).
Well, it’s here.
On April 7, after airing on GMA, the official Star Wars YouTube page posted its first teaser trailer for the newest film (prequel) in the Star Wars series.
The teaser has taken the internet by storm (as anticipated); racking up nearly half a million views on YouTube in just a few hours, heading the Twitter search page, and trending on nearly every social media platform, tagged #RogueOne—oops, and because of typos, #RougeOne is also trending.

Again, Lucasfilm and Disney have run with the idea of a female protagonist. Is it an attempt at social justice? Or perhaps the corporations took a shot in the dark, putting a new feel to Star Wars, which has been dominated by male leads since its inception in the ‘70s.

No matter the answer, Felicity Jones looks perfect in her role, making the teaser an enjoyable and epic 2-minute ride.

Besides the AT-AT’s (and the Death Star) there appear to be no familiar faces in the trailer (yet), which seemingly gives viewers a more realistic, sinister, and plot-twisting tease from the sensational and face-value sci-fi world of Star Wars.

Slated for a December 16 release, “Rogue One” takes place in between “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” and “Episode IV: A New Hope.”

The film revolves around a group of resistance fighters who unite to steal the plans to the Death Star...The theft of the plans was first referenced in the opening crawl of A New Hope, which described the event as the Rebel Alliance’s “first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.” The Death Star is ultimately destroyed in A New Hope after the princess and her companions—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the droidsR2-D2 and C-3PO—deliver the plans to the Rebellion and a weakness in the station is discovered.
As viewers can see from the teaser, in no way, shape, or form does the film appear to revolve around Jedi—or people who possess the Force.

According to the film’s director, Gareth Edwards, the movie will not be as black and white when it comes to the view of good and evil, “Rogue One” will be “gray” and described by him as “Real ... This is a real place that we’re really in.”
