A student a Detroit high school said that the school’s cheerleading squad attacked her “over a boy,” according to reports on Wednesday, April 27.

Amira Hall, a 15-year-old student at Denby High School, was suspended, FOX2 reported. The other girls who were involved were also suspended.

The incident was caught on camera by her classmate.

“They just jumped me,” said Amira, a freshman. “I handled my own, but they jumped me. The whole Denby cheerleading team except maybe two.”

When questioned, Hall said it was “over a boy.”

Hall’s mother, Keyte Duncan, confirmed what Amira said.

“Yes it’s because the boy asked her friend to go to prom,” she said. “It would be like me asking you to prom,” Duncan said. “I think it was (being insecure) and jealousy.”

Denby spokesperson Robert Guttersohn said five students were suspended over the incident, adding that 12 students were asked to stay home for a day.

There were no injuries, and the incident is under investigation. There’s a possibility that criminal charges could be filed.

A few days ago, a 16-year-old Delaware high school girl was killed after she was beaten by another student. The girl, Amy Joyner, was pronounced dead at the hospital after sustaining injuries in the fight.

The fight was apparently over a boy. “She was fighting a girl, and then that’s when all these other girls started banking her — like jumping her — and she hit her head on the sink,” a witness said about the beating, reported Philadelphia TV station WPVI.
