Daniel Craig, known for his portrayal of James Bond in the latest round of the spy films, has been named as the most likely candidate to star in the adaptation of the Swedish novel, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
The movie is in pre-production with Sony Entertainment collecting various elements needed to deliver a solid interpretation of the novel. One of the key elements needed includes a solid lead actor who can hold his own in a high octane action film.
Brad Pitt was rumored to be a candidate to play the lead in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” however, Entertainment Weekly reports that Daniel Craig will take the role.
No definite deals have been made at this time as Craig is currently preparing for his role in “Cowboys & Aliens,” a new science fiction film in its early production stages.
If Craig signs on, he will work alongside director David Fincher, who recently won an Academy Award for his work in the 2008 film “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.” He also directed “Zodiac” in 2007 and “Fight Club” in 1999.
Finch and Craig are said to be meeting in Los Angles to discuss what work is needed for the film and to see if the pair would work well together on the set. No word has been given on how much Sony will offer Craig to be in the film.
“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” is based on a series of Swedish novels that revolve around a multi-generational crime family.
