Manafort shot down the allegations calling them “unfounded, silly and nonsensical,” and accused the New York Times of political bias.

However, on Thursday, the Associated Press reported that they obtained emails that showed Manafort directly orchestrated a covert Washington lobbying operation on behalf of Yanukovych.

Manafort’s resignation followed the next day. In a statement, Trump thanked Manafort for his help on getting the nomination.

“I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process,” Trump said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in a Fox News interview scheduled to air on Sunday, Eric Trump said the campaign mandager resigned because his father wanted to avoid being “distracted by whatever things Paul was dealing with.”
