A man in northern China hopes to win a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by stomping around in extremely heavy iron shoes.

Zhang Fuxing from Tanghsan City in Hebei Province told state media Xinhua about his aim to be famous by wearing the nearly 900 pound pair of shoes–about seven times his body weight. They are each about 12 inches long, and 8 inches wide, with iron soles that are around 16 inches thick.

The 51-year-old has been practicing walking in his iron-clad footwear every morning for about 20 minutes for more than seven years. Typically he only walks about 12 yards.

Zhang is a factory worker, and manufactured the shoes himself. Firstly he created shoes that weighed a bit over 150 pounds, but added more weight as he became stronger. Next year he hopes to make them even heavier.

He leaves the shoes in his courtyard because, “they are so heavy that I do not worry they might be stolen,” Xinhua reported.
