A driver in China saw his car careen out of control and flip onto its roof on a busy highway because he didn’t follow the road rules.
According to video footage on the popular Chinese news portal Sina, the driver of a blue sedan attempted to force his way into the rightmost lane from the middle lane on an expressway.
In front of the blue sedan in the middle lane was a container trailer, and behind on the right lane, a silver car. The blue sedan failed to squeeze through the two vehicles while making the lane change (an illegal maneuver since there the lanes were marked with an unbroken white line), nicked the silver car, and plowed into the expressway divider before flipping over.
The incident took place on Zhong Tang Bridge at Dongguan, in China’s southern province of Guangdong at around 2:40 p.m. on March 5, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.
Mr. Lu, the driver of the blue sedan who survived the devastating accident unscathed, admitted that he was at fault for performing a reckless lane change. However, he said the driver the silver car was partly at fault.
“I was in a hurry. I did slow down to let the silver car go first. But the driver of the silver car intentionally tried to stop me from making the lane change by refusing to accelerate. In the end, I had to forcibly change lanes,” Mr. Lu told Southern Metropolis Daily.
When questioned if he had intentionally tried to stop the vehicle from overtaking him, Mr. Tang, the driver of the silver car, explained: “It was [the driver of the blue car] that illegally changed lane when there was an unbroken white line. All you have to do is watch the footage.”
