Not only was this thoughtful boy hailed as a “hero” after saving his 81-year-old neighbor’s life, but his heroic act even made headlines in the local paper. Read on to learn what this little boy did!

Caleb Hunt, 8, of Conway, Arkansas, woke up early one morning and heard the sound of a woman groaning coming from outside.

It sounded like “a groaning noise calling for help,” Caleb told Arkansas Matters.

So, instead of cowering under his covers, the curious third-grader decided to get out of his bed to investigate what was going on.

Caleb looked out of his bedroom window, and, sure enough, he saw his 81-year-old neighbor Sue Watson lying on the floor of her garage.

To Caleb, Watson had always been a “very nice” lady who always brought treats for him and his 6-year-old sister, Hannah, on special occasions.

From his room, Caleb saw that cars were just passing by as she lay there—nobody even noticed Watson.

“At first I got mad and started feeling like I should run over there and help,” he said.

Though Caleb was supposed to inform his parents before leaving the house, upon seeing his neighbor suffering and in need, he forsook his house rules and ran barefoot across the street to check on his elderly neighbor.

“I didn’t really worry too much about going and doing the right thing,” Caleb said.

When Caleb saw Watson injured, he immediately ran back home to tell his mother, who then dialed 9-1-1.

Caleb’s worry and consideration ended up saving his neighbor’s life!

It seems that Watson had gone outside into the garage to take out the trash, and as she headed back into her house, she felt dizzy and had fallen. She might have remained there, helpless, for a while, according to her family.
She had suffered a broken hip and dislocated shoulder and was taken to the hospital. She later praised Caleb for his consideration. “He showed a lot of kindness for a little boy,” Watson told the Log Cabin.

Her family members couldn’t agree more. “We told Caleb he’s our hero,” Watson’s daughter-in-law, Cindy, said.

“Absolutely he’s a hero,” said Watson’s son, Tom.

As for Caleb’s parents, they were totally impressed by their son’s quick response even though he broke the rules by leaving the house without asking.

“This act of kindness just shows the type of character he has,” said Caleb’s father, Greg.

“He’s such a good kid. So thoughtful,” said Caleb’s mother, Kendra.

A day after the incident, Caleb went to the hospital with his mom and sister to visit Watson. The thoughtful boy even brought her flowers and told her that he would help her to take the trash out for her.

Such a sweet little man!

The 8-year-old boy offers some noteworthy advice he learned: “Do not be slow to help,” Caleb said with a grin. “Even if it means breaking a house rule.”
