Cassie and Chris Langan had planned a trip to a model train show in Warrnambool, a seaside city along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, on Jan. 12, 2020. However, upon suggesting the idea to their children, the keen parents were met with a less-than-enthusiastic response.
“Modem had a fantastic day not being used by the kids and it was lovely not to listen to constant bickering,” the mom of three continued. “The only complaining was Evan being mortified that we took our modem out in public.”
To date, Cassie’s post has been liked over 173,000 times and shared by over 72,000 people.
“The most original and effective idea conceived, implemented, with goals accomplished, ever,” one Facebook user praised.
“You win the internet with this one,” added another, while one person joked about the modem’s experience of the trip, saying, “Seems like it really connected with nature.”
“Love it,” wrote another fan. “Can I come next time? My tablet needs [a] day out.”
“Our 13-year-old son was the only one who reluctantly agreed to go,” she continued. “In the end, we told the kids if they weren’t going to go, we'd take the modem instead and they said OK.”
Cassie and Chris documented their fun-filled day in a series of hilarious photos at the beach, amusement arcade, and seaside food stalls, with the modem “posing” in the center of each and every one.
Undoubtedly, many parents of kids and teens can relate to the phenomenon of arranging a day out only to be met by a chorus of reluctant groans. Cassie and Chris, however, had the wit and wisdom to turn the tables in the most ironic way; they removed their children’s precious access to the internet.
Cassie admitted she often worries that her children spend too much time online. Returning home from the family day trip, it seemed that her suspicions were correct; the Langan siblings left behind, aged 10 and 17, hadn’t quite had the “home alone” time they had been hoping for.
The 10-year-old, however, was indignant. He “stormed off to his room,” Cassie revealed, under the mistaken belief that his parents loved their modem more than they loved their youngest son.
Since Cassie’s hilarious Facebook post has gone viral, however, the internet-savvy siblings can relate; “they finally see the funny side,” Cassie said.
