A federal grand jury indicted Caleb Andrew Bailey, 30, of Waldorf, Md., on a slew of charges stemming from an illegal shipment of explosives through the U.S. Postal Service.
The Maryland Board of Elections lists Bailey as a delegate for Donald Trump.
Facing a maximum sentence of 10 years for the illegal transport of explosives and the possession of a machine gun, combined with the mandatory minimum of 15 years (maximum 30) for production and attempted production of child pornography, Bailey could be imprisoned for 50 years.
On Feb. 18, postal police and inspectors responded to a shipping facility in Capital Heights, Md., after workers discovered an opened box containing ammunition, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.
In the box was 119 rounds of .50 caliber cartridges, containing incendiary bullets for an M4 machine gun, and 200 rounds of explosive 14.5mm M18 machine gun ammo. The package was on its way to Wisconsin when it was discovered.
Court documents showed that on Feb. 25 and March 3, calls were made to a U.S. postal facility by someone believed to have used a false name in the first call, and then in the second call, identified himself as Caleb Bailey. The caller provided the tracking number for the package received by officials one week prior.
After an investigation, it turned out neither Bailey or the person who the package was intended for possessed federal explosives licenses to transport the materials. On May 5, police arranged a meeting with Bailey to provide documentation regarding the package; Bailey agreed, but failed to show.
A federal search warrant was executed the same day, and after checking his residence, police uncovered a machine gun. The following day, Bailey was charged with unlawful transport of explosives.
The indictment papers also state that Bailey attempted to use, and did use, a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct to produce child pornography from the dates of March 2015 to January 2016.
He is being held in detention at the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt until his first scheduled court appearance on May 24.
